Things are winding down here at Sunrise Gardens. Our first ‘Harvest Sunday’ of the year is coming up this Sunday, September 7th, and we’re looking forward to finding out how many winter squash are hiding under the blanket of green leaves. Some of our big pumpkins (the ones we can see from the edges) are huge, so it will be fun to pull them out. The forecast is calling for a 30% chance of showers, so if you are planning on coming out, make sure to prepare for that, and bring some rain gear, just in case.
The forecast low for tonight is only +2C, so we’re heading out to the summer squash right away to pick everything we can. Most of the other crops still out there can handle a bit of light frost, but the cucumbers are sensitive to the cold, so we’ll be out there again, pulling the insulated tarps over the plants tonight. This is the last little push before the end of a season that’s been successful and invigorating as well as exhausting.
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted many pictures, so I’ve added another gallery here. We hope to see you at one of our harvest parties, so if you haven’t already let us know you’re coming, please drop us a line at email@example.com.
