How To Use Our Salad Shoots

imageWhat are Salad shoots? A mixture of Sugar Pea, Sunflower, Broccoli and Radish Shoots, our Salad Shoot mix is one of our most popular items. It’s not only delicious, but loaded with nutrition. Our bodies need a variety of foods, with different nutritional profiles, for optimum health. This versatile mix gives you the full spectrum of nutritional components, including protein, anti-oxidants and many of the vitamins and minerals our bodies need to not only survive, but thrive.

Salad Shoot Tips and Tricks

This mix is bulky enough to stand alone as the main base of your salad. Just rinse, chop into bite sized pieces and throw into your salad bowl. Add whatever veggies (or meat) you might usually add to a lettuce or mixed green salad, dress it, and voila! You have a fresh, delicious nutritious (and local) salad ready to go, any time of year (even when the ground is covered in snow).

We’re lucky enough to usually have a container or two of Salad Shoots in our fridge, so we’ve been adding it to many other dishes . Pretty much any time we serve ourselves anything to eat, we add a some of the Salad Shoots. They’re a wonderful addition to scrambled eggs or omelets, in a sandwhich or wrap, or as a nice side dish accompanying things like stews or casseroles. It also makes a beautiful garnish to any savory dish.

We also use the salad shoot mix in our morning smoothies.  Simply grab a handful and add it in with the rest of your smoothie ingredients (approximately one cup per smoothie), and you can add a tonne of nutrition to your morning drink.  Even though there is radish in the mix, which doesn’t usually go with fruit, there’s not enough in the mix to make a real impact on the flavour.

We have several customers who add the mix to soup, but we much prefer the mix raw, or slightly wilted.  We add it on top of any carb on our plate (rice, quinoa, potatoes). The mixture wilts nicely, while still retaining it’s texture and taste.

We’d love to know if you have any other ways you use the salad shoots, so drop us a line and let us know so we can share!
