May has been a very active and fulfilling month of gardening and we are looking towards June with anticipation and Joy. We have welcomed 4 new team members and are getting more planting, seeding, weeding and transplanting done by pairing their enthusiasm and our experience. It’s exciting to share our passion for the land and our work with others.
Thanks to the ‘rest year’ we took last season we have the energy to increase our amount and variety of crops this year. We’ll be growing four varieties of potatoes, peas and beans, a large celery patch, multiple varieties of summer and winter squash, fennel, herbs, garlic and onions, beets and carrots, Saskatoon berries and raspberries along with our salad greens and shoots.
We’re happy to announce that as part of our commitment to sell locally, we will be at the Onoway Farmers’ Market, which runs on Thursdays, starting this week, June 4th. The market will be taking place between 5pm and 8pm at the Onoway Arena, at 5004 53Ave. Please follow all distancing rules in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and shop with purpose. We look forward to seeing our neighbours there!
As of May 1st we have been attending the Strathcona Farmers’ market every Saturday and will continue to do so. We are located in Row 3, the aisle directly behind from where we had been for nearly 15 years. The change has been nice and we’re enjoying getting to know our new market neighbors. The market continues to maintain their physical distancing strategies, keeping the amount of shoppers in the market to 50, which has meant a line up most of the day (the lineup does, however, move quite quickly!) We are very thankful for the community support and that we have such a committed and loyal customer base. Thank you to all who continue to shop locally!
There is a ‘priority line’ option for senior customers, which quickly reduces wait time. Also, we are now offering curb-side pick-up for our customers who are unable or uncomfortable with coming into the market. Pickup is being offered from 10am to 11am only. Please contact Dawn directly at 780-218-2430 to make arrangements before Friday at 5pm.
In other news, we’ve decided not to move forward with our Community Supported Agriculture program; however, we will be continuing to do parking lot drop-offs every second Sunday. As more produce becomes available from the field, our weekly box will evolve, and we will be adding many more options to add to the set box. Alternatively, you can build your own grocery box (minimum $30), and we’ll get it ready for you.
Please stay posted with our newsletters for the most up-to-date information.
If you are interesting in picking up an order this week, please place your order here. Upcoming delivery dates are: this Sunday, June 7, June 21, July 5. We ask that you get your order in as soon as possible. The deadline for our next delivery/drop-off is this Thursday (June 4th) at 10 am (no exceptions).
Thanks for your ongoing support and loyalty!
